President, Public Sector HealthCare Roundtable Jarvio A. Grevious was appointed Deputy Executive Officer, Benefits Administration in December 2004. He reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer, oversees programs for retirement and health benefits, and provides long-term direction for their delivery, program changes, enhancements, and additions. Mr. Grevious joined CalPERS in October 2003 as Assistant Executive Officer, Health Benefits. In that capacity, he directed the purchasing of health care for more than 1.2 million CalPERS enrollees, advised the Chief Executive Officer and Board of Administration, and administered day-to-day operations of the Health Benefits Branch. Previously, he was with the California Department of Social Services, serving as Chief Deputy Director since January 2001. He was responsible for more than 4,500 staff and an annual budget of more than $21 billion. He also advised the department Director, the Health and Welfare Agency, and the Governor's Cabinet on social services policies. As the Department's Deputy Director, Administration, from September 1992 to December 2000, Mr. Grevious conceived, negotiated, and directed the restructuring of more than $7 billion in financing for 58 counties and 130 programs to implement the CalWORKS program. Upon joining CalPERS, he had more than 23 years of California State service. He served as Interim Deputy Director of the Department of Social Service's Office of Child Support from June 1999 to January 2000; as Deputy Director, Administrative Services for the California Energy Commission from November 1991 to October 1992; as a Director and Supervisor for the Office of the Legislative Analyst from September 1987 to October 1991; as a legislative consultant for the California Department of Education from May 1985 to November 1986; as a fiscal and policy analyst for the Office of the Legislative Analyst from June 1982 to April 1985; and as a budget analyst and management auditor for the State Department of Finance from January 1980 to May 1982. Mr. Grevious has a Bachelor's degree in finance and economics and a Master's degree in business administration from California State University, Sacramento. In 1994, he participated in the Program for Senior Executives in State and Local Government at Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government.
