Annual Conference
Roundtable Holds Successful Annual Conference
The Public Sector HealthCare Roundtable held its Third Annual Conference and Business Meeting on October 28-30, 2007 at the Hilton Alexandria Old Town in Alexandria, Virginia. By all accounts, this years meeting presented informative, timely and useful information regarding not only the issues of the moment but also those issues that are likely to dominate much of the 2008 election debate and beyond.
Speaker after speaker highlighted the need for public sector health care purchasers to remain engaged in the health care debate at every level of government. Whether working to advance incremental reforms in the Congress or advancing innovative solutions through state government, Roundtable members have a unique opportunity to play an increasingly important role in the American health care debate.
In the short-term, Roundtable members need to continue to urge Members of Congress to embrace issues such as E-Prescribing and generic pharmaceuticals; to oppose cost-shifting initiatives such as the current proposal to extend employer responsibility for end-stage renal disease (ESRD); and to encourage the expansion of access to health care through successful programs like SCHIP.
